So it's been a while. I'm sitting here (at my internship at Agora Entertainment in Las Colinas, TX) reading a so-far-so-good script called Greta Regrets about a spoiled junior bank exec dealing with her economic catastrophe-induced layoff and learning the value of common work. Page 36. My boss claims he can read one of these in an hour, but it takes me closer to three days give or take. I'm working for free though, so it's not like I can be demoted. Plus he knows I'm trying (obviously, I mean I'm blogging about reading at work, right?).
So reading all these scripts and paying attention to what people do at work to try and scrounge up some semblance of an idea about what I can do for a career that combines writing and film enthusiasm without being limited by archaic traditional methods, I figured another blog entry was long overdue. And I've watched the first 4 episodes of Showtime's Californication, and David Duchovony's hilariously apathetic down-and-out writer has sunken so low professionally that he's been reduced to blogging for "HelL.A. Magazine" (I really hope that's fictional). What better way to get to the top than to start at the bottom, right? Anyway, I'll be writing more frequently now, mostly to see my own words and think about how clever they are, but it will be writing nonetheless. Here are some things that have been kicking around my head recently. I look forward to ranting about them soon....
Weeds. It's freakin' awesome!
How do religious zealots and atheist evangelicals not see that their arguments usually depend on the same flaws? I'm not sure which camp is the unstoppable force and which is the immovable object, but like Batman and the Joker, they're truly "destined to do this forever..."
Who's least wrong in U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan's fervent prosecution of California smut producers Rob Zicari and Janet Romano? Is a year's prison time too much without any proof of legal wrongdoing? Can I find any press on the case that doesn't clearly favor one side or the other???
Is it me, or does my generation feel like when it comes to planning our futures, we're all in a long fast food line trying to decide what plastic-wrapped sensation will taste best right now? Do we go with the all-time favorites or try the newest limited-time offer featuring a nonsensical, explosively caloric mix of condiments, bells and whistles? Won't they all help kill us or is there actually a "healthy" option hidden in there somewhere, and if so, won't it taste like shit?
Pandora is the greatest thing ever. I just made an "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" station, and it has yet to fail me in 2 and a half hours. Who knew there really was decent music in the '80's beyond sheer novelty value???
Twitter sucks.
Why can't I decide how I feel about Michael Mann's Public Enemies and why is it bugging me so much??? Clearly I'll have to see it again...
